Black Tie New Years Eve Party Planning

December 29, 2015

This year Taylor got the idea that he really wanted to host a New Year’s Eve Party, but not just any NYE shindig. He wanted Black Tie, disco balls, and a champagne fountain (only in our case sparkling cider).

Now that the final countdown is on to bring our party to fruition, I thought it would be fun to share how I’m building our party plan and the round up of inspiration I’ve found thanks to Pinterest (my NYE Planning board).

Black Tie Gold and Silver New Years Eve Party
Happy New Year Garland  (I found at Marshalls) / New Years Party Blower (I found at Marshalls) / Tinsel Swizzle Sticks / Gold Glitter Top Hat / Confetti Pinwheel Decoration (I found mine at Home Goods and TJ Maxx) / Gold Dipped Feathers / DIY Confetti Poppers / Tinsel Swizzle Sticks / Virgin Mint Mojito

Here’s what I have planned:

Food: What we get to eat is always my favorite part, and the one thing that I give the most attention to. If your guests eat well, I believe they’ll remember the night well! I know I do! We are doing appetizers and desserts. Guests will be bringing delights based on the first letter of their last name. To be sure we have plenty of foods, I will also be making a half dozen or so appetizers and a chocolate fountain station.

Drinks… Being LDS we choose not to drink alcohol, but that doesn’t mean we don’t still enjoy clinking glasses and bubbly fun. That’s why I’ll be converting my gold snack cart into our mocktail station with everything one needs to make Virgin Mint Mojitos (quick recipe here), Cranberry Cuties, and Dirty Dr. Peppers.

Entertainment: One of the hardest things about New Years is that it’s a l-o-n-g party, and you want to make sure guests stay entertained. We have a few ideas up our sleeve for this. The first is that as each guest comes in, they’ll be given a new identity for our murder mystery (I purchased a pre-designed game from Alleyeson Lou on Etsy).  I’ll let you know how it goes after the party.

Next, we will have surprise challenges and activities inside of balloons. Each hour a new balloon will be popped to reveal the challenge like a dance off, everything goes to black light while glow in the dark sticks are offered out, and match up the New Year’s Eve resolution to the guest.

Finally, we are clearing out all of the furniture in our family room to make it our dance floor.

I can’t wait to show you the final result of our own New Years Party come to life soon!

Until then… Happy New Year!!  I hope you’ll allow this year to bring you more joy, more laughter, and more fulfillment than you can currently imagine.

The Thriving Photographer Retreat | Children’s Pool Party Stylized Session

May 22, 2013

The-Thriving-Photographer-Florida-Retreat-Pool Party-Concept-Session-1.jpg
Today, I’m sharing our third of the four stylized sessions from The Thriving Photographer – Florida Retreat.  (See session 1 here and 2 here).

This is the one that I was most excited for… I had this vision that had been inspired from a Kate Spade ad (I am obsessed with Kate Spade) that I’d seen a couple summers ago.  Then I wanted to add a surprise element that they may have never gotten to try before… Bring my favorite lens rental company LENS PRO TO GO and we were fully set up to incase my 5D Mark II so that it could go underwater with the girls and anyone who wanted to try it!

I hope you’re enjoying these! We had a blast creating them!

Senior Stylized Shoot – The Thriving Photographer Retreat

May 8, 2013

You just can’t put 20 photographers together for 4 days and not end up with some amazing images!  We had boudoir sessions taking place in hallways, impromptu posing classes and a whole lot of fun playing with settings.

As part of the Florida Thrive Retreat, I put together 4 stylized sessions, and over the next few weeks… I’ll be sharing some of the gorgeous shots captured by my amazing Thrivers. Be sure to follow their watermarks to their websites because these girls are worth finding!

These beautiful girls may need a 2nd post as this is only a handful of what was captured!

Jump already

May 6, 2013

I’ve found myself on this edge so many times.  It could be really great below, it could be… but what if it isn’t?  My heart wanted to believe that it was… But I just couldn’t know for sure.

There was no guarantee, there was no proof.  There was hope in my heart and determination in my spirit.

So… I jumped.

And over and over, it’s been in those crazy terrifying leaps that I’ve found a little more about who I’m meant to be.

It’s when we jump that we realize –  we’ve been able to fly all along.

Photography Workshop Retreat does the Harlem Shake

April 12, 2013

Getting out of your comfort zone is hard…. That’s exactly why we say, “out of comfort” – as in UN-comfortable.  So it makes sense why so many stay where it feels safe… But this is such a dangerous trap!  Growth, at it’s best… Happens when we get uncomfortable.  The most amazing experiences of my life – all happened when I was the most terrified.

So what about you?  What have you been wanting to do for a long time but just keep “holding off” on?

One of our crazy ‘get out of your comfort zone’ exercises for The Thriving Photographer’s Mastermind Retreat – FL. was in creating this Harlem Shake video.  The Mr. thought of it months ago, but just wasn’t sure if we would have time.  At the very end of the retreat we found that time!

Everyone jumped in, played their part and we got to laugh till we cried in the process!  Chelsea our fearless intro dancer made a comment that stuck with me, she said… “You know the comfort zone? I live perpetually out of that zone”.  And that got me thinking about the success these women have experienced…

The 19 women who came to spend the weekend with me have made a-m-a-z-i-n-g things happen!   It’s not that they’re not afraid of getting uncomfortable… In fact many of these women shared the truth about how scared they really were as they went for it…  But  they decided that the risk was worth it!

These women have challenged themselves to step up their game in every way… They started by investing in The Thriving Photographer™ – then they had to actually implement what they learned; new pricing, new sales techniques, new marketing strategies!  With disbelief and shock they saw their value go from $200 a session to thousands per session.  And last week they each flew from all parts of the country to a spend 4 days in a house full of women they only know virtually…  To get silly and crazy and vulnerable… And to Harlem Shake.  They realized that THEY are worth the risk!

So here is my CHALLENGE FOR YOU… Leave a comment and share where you’d really like to grow and why it’s uncomfortable for you and then go take the first step in making that growth you crave, become your reality.  YOU ARE WORTH THE RISK!
